Course Overview
The Level 2 Foam Rolling Instructor Course is a one-day CPD qualification designed to expand your coaching skills and give you the knowledge and confidence to safely incorporate foam rolling and self-myofascial techniques into your clients’ programmes.
Foam rolling is widely used in fitness, but it’s often misunderstood or used without a clear understanding of what it is actually trying to achieve. Knowing where to roll, how to apply the techniques and when to use them can make a big difference to how confidently you incorporate foam rolling into your coaching.
You’ll develop a deeper understanding of foam rolling, self-myofascial techniques and the anatomy behind movement, exploring muscles, connective tissues and the areas commonly targeted with foam rolling.
You’ll learn a range of techniques, how to apply them effectively and how to adapt your approach for different clients and training goals.
You’ll also explore how foam rolling can be incorporated into warm-ups, mobility work, recovery and wider training programmes, giving you practical ideas you can use to add variety and purpose to your coaching.
Your face-to-face training is highly practical, giving you the opportunity to learn, practise and coach a range of foam rolling techniques throughout the day, with expert guidance and feedback from your tutor.
You’ll also spend the day alongside other fitness professionals, sharing ideas and experiences before leaving with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to bring foam rolling into your existing coaching practice.

What You'll Learn
Your one-day course is divided into four practical workshops, taking you from the science and principles behind foam rolling through to confidently applying techniques with different clients and training goals.
Start by discovering what foam rolling is, what it can do and how it fits into effective fitness training.
You’ll explore the anatomy and physiology behind foam rolling, including the role of muscles, fascia, connective tissue and the nervous system, helping you understand what you are actually working with when using a foam roller.
You’ll look at the different theories and proposed mechanisms behind self-myofascial techniques, while separating evidence-based practice from common myths and misconceptions.
You’ll also explore how foam rolling may influence range of movement, perceived muscle tightness, movement preparation and recovery, giving you a clearer understanding of when it may be useful within a client’s programme.
Most importantly, you’ll learn that foam rolling isn’t simply about finding a sore spot and rolling over it... effective application requires understanding, purpose and appropriate technique.
It’s time to get hands-on.
You’ll work through a comprehensive range of foam rolling techniques, learning how to position the body, control pressure and use the roller effectively across different areas of the body.
You’ll explore commonly targeted areas including the lower body, hips, glutes, back and upper body, developing your practical knowledge of where and how different techniques can be applied.
You’ll also learn how factors such as body position, pressure, speed, duration and breathing can influence how a technique feels and how it is applied.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll develop your ability to demonstrate, explain and coach foam rolling techniques rather than simply performing them yourself.
Knowing the techniques is only the beginning. Now you’ll learn how to apply them appropriately to real clients.
You’ll explore how to use foam rolling alongside warm-ups, mobility work, resistance training and recovery, understanding when it may complement a training session and when it may not be appropriate.
You’ll also look at how to adapt techniques for different clients, abilities, experience levels and training goals, including how to modify positioning and pressure to make techniques more accessible.
You’ll develop your observation and coaching skills, learning how to identify when a client needs clearer instruction, a different position or an alternative technique.
Most importantly, you’ll learn how to use foam rolling as part of a wider coaching strategy rather than treating it as a standalone solution.
Bring everything together and learn how to turn your new knowledge into purposeful foam rolling sessions and client interventions.
You’ll explore how to structure foam rolling within different types of sessions, including pre-training preparation, post-training recovery, mobility sessions and dedicated self-myofascial work.
You’ll learn how to select appropriate techniques, organise exercises logically and combine foam rolling with other coaching methods to create sessions that are structured, varied and relevant to the client.
You’ll also practise coaching your own sequences, giving you the opportunity to refine your demonstrations, instructions and coaching cues with tutor feedback.
There’s no formal assessment on this course. The focus is on developing practical skills you can use.
Throughout the day, you’ll learn, practise and coach a wide range of foam rolling techniques, with expert guidance and feedback from your tutor.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of the science behind foam rolling, practical coaching skills and a wider toolkit of self-myofascial techniques that you can confidently introduce into your existing fitness practice.
