Course Overview
The Level 2 Stretch Anatomy Instructor Course is a one-day CPD qualification designed to expand your coaching skills and give you the knowledge and confidence to safely incorporate stretching and flexibility training into your clients’ programmes.
Flexibility is an important component of fitness, yet it’s often misunderstood, overlooked or left out entirely. Whether it’s our own training or the programmes we create for clients, a lack of understanding about flexibility, stretching techniques and when to use them can make it difficult to know where to start.
You’ll develop a deeper understanding of flexibility, stretching and the anatomy behind movement, exploring how muscles, joints and connective tissues contribute to mobility and range of movement. You’ll learn different stretching techniques, when and how to use them, and how to adapt your approach for different clients and training goals.
You’ll also explore how stretching can be incorporated into warm-ups, cool-downs, mobility work, recovery and dedicated flexibility sessions, giving you practical ideas you can use to add variety and purpose to your coaching.
Your face-to-face training is highly practical, giving you the opportunity to learn, practise and coach a range of stretching techniques throughout the day, with expert guidance and feedback from your tutor.
You’ll also spend the day alongside other fitness professionals, sharing ideas and experiences before leaving with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to bring stretching and flexibility training into your existing coaching practice.

What You'll Learn
Your one-day course is divided into four practical workshops, taking you from the anatomy and science behind flexibility through to assessing clients and applying advanced stretching techniques with confidence.
Start by developing a deeper understanding of the anatomy and physiology behind stretching and flexibility.
You’ll explore the structure and function of muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia, and develop a clearer understanding of how these tissues contribute to movement, flexibility and range of motion.
You’ll also explore what happens at a joint during movement and stretching, including the relationship between joint position, muscle length, mobility and stability. You’ll learn how concepts such as tight and weak muscles can influence movement, and why understanding the underlying anatomy is essential when deciding how and when to stretch.
Most importantly, you’ll learn where stretching and flexibility training fit within a wider training programme... from warm-ups and preparation to cool-downs, recovery and dedicated flexibility work.
Knowing that a client lacks flexibility is one thing. Understanding why is another.
You’ll learn how to assess flexibility and movement using a range of static and passive assessment techniques, giving you a more informed starting point when working with clients.
You’ll explore practical assessments ranging from squat assessment and the 5-Inch Wall Test through to additional flexibility and movement tests that go beyond what is typically covered within a standard Level 3 Personal Training course.
You’ll learn how to observe movement, assess range of motion and identify potential restrictions, asymmetries and areas that may require further investigation.
You’ll also develop your understanding of what your assessment findings can and can’t tell you. This will help you make more informed decisions within your scope of practice rather than simply prescribing stretches because something looks tight.
Now it’s time to connect the dots.
You’ll learn how to take your assessment findings and apply appropriate stretching and flexibility protocols, selecting techniques based on the individual rather than simply working through a generic stretching routine.
You’ll explore how to match different stretching approaches to your client’s needs, considering factors such as range of motion, muscle length, joint position, training goals, exercise selection and session timing.
You’ll also learn how to incorporate flexibility work into a wider programme, understanding how stretching can complement strength training, mobility work, warm-ups, cool-downs and recovery.
Through practical application, you’ll begin to build the confidence to assess, interpret and apply... turning your observations into more purposeful coaching decisions.
Bring everything together and take your stretching knowledge further with a range of advanced stretching protocols and techniques.
You’ll learn and practise developmental stretching, PNF stretching and MET (Muscle Energy Technique), developing a deeper understanding of how and when these approaches can be used.
You’ll explore the principles behind each technique, how to position and coach the client effectively, how to apply appropriate levels of intensity and how to adapt techniques for different individuals and training goals.
You’ll then bring your anatomy knowledge, assessment skills and stretching techniques together to create more purposeful, individualised flexibility sessions.
Learn. Assess. Apply. Coach
There’s no stressful final practical exam. Your skills are developed and assessed throughout the day as you learn, practise and coach different stretching and flexibility techniques.
You’ll receive expert guidance and feedback from your tutor, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, refine your technique and build your confidence as you progress.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of the science behind stretching, practical assessment skills and a wider toolkit of stretching techniques that you can apply within your existing coaching practice.
Your 1-Day Practical Training
Your face-to-face training takes place at our Milton Keynes Academy, from 9:00am–4:30pm. Across the day, you’ll take part in four practical workshops, giving you plenty of time to learn, practise and develop your stretching and flexibility coaching skills.
Around 80–90% of the day is practical. You’ll explore a range of stretching techniques, practise flexibility and movement assessments, develop your coaching cues and instruction skills, and learn how to apply different stretching protocols to individual clients.
And you don’t need to be super-flexible to take part. This isn’t a test of your flexibility. It’s about learning how to coach stretching effectively.
You’ll be supported throughout the day by your tutor, with plenty of opportunities to practise, ask questions, receive feedback and build your confidence.
By the end of the day, you’ll have assessed movement, practised a range of stretching techniques and applied flexibility protocols, giving you the practical skills and confidence to introduce more purposeful stretching and flexibility training into your own client sessions.
How you'll be assessed
There’s no formal assessment on this one-day CPD course.
Instead, the focus is on learning, practising and developing a new skill that you can add to your fitness professional toolbox.
You’ll need to attend the full day and actively participate in the practical workshops, with plenty of opportunities to practise, ask questions and receive tutor feedback.
CPD helps you keep developing your knowledge, expand your skills and stay confident in what you offer your clients.
This course gives you practical stretching and flexibility skills you can take straight into your coaching, helping you expand your toolkit and offer more to your clients.
No exams. No stressful assessments. Just a practical day of learning, practising and developing.
